Visegrad residency
Sabina Bočková (*1995) is a choreographer and dancer based in Brno (Czech Republic). She is fascinated by the simple and commonplace language of the body, transforming movement through choreographic structures while addressing themes and motifs that echo social and cultural issues.
She studied classical and modern dance and after dancing in ballet companies for three years, she changed her perspective on dance and decided to work as a freelance artist. Since 2019 she has been creating her own original works in the collective POCKETART. For 2019, she created the duet The Lion's Den with Johana Pocková, which was nominated for the 26th edition of the Czech Dance Platform and was selected for AerowavesTwenty21. This work was inspired by mass media and political populism.
In the same year, she created another duet in collaboration with Slovak performer Tomáš Janypek, Songlines: expedition 97/18, a work that deals with the loss of a loved one. In 2020, together with Johana Pocková and Inga Zotová-Mikšinová, she created another full-length work, Treatment of Remembering, which deals with the theme of environmental pollution. Treatment of Remembering won the International Jury Award and Audience Award at the 27th Czech Dance Platform and was selected for AerowavesTwenty22.
With the duet The Lion's Den she took part in the European project for young audiences Shape It!. In 2022, together with Jazmina Pictor, she created the duet Microworlds selected for AerowavesTwenty24. In 2024, together with Johana Pockova, she premiered Fairy Tales, a performance for 8 dancers and 2 musicians, co-produced by Upscalling Alliance Big Pulse Dance.
In addition to her own work, she has collaborated as a performer with Tantehorse, tYhle company and choreographer Marie Gourdain, and most recently with Cirk La Putyka.
