Bartosz BAXI Ostrowski

BAXI Ostrowski, dance maker based in Lisboa, Portugal. Since 2019 he is working in the field of arts & science, which started with a research project “Babel. The resonance of language” and by now consists of laboratories, workshops, two lecture performances, as well as collective project “Blurrylingualism encounter in-between languages” with its recent Toolkit book publication.
Connected with the Portuguese performance scene since 2017 through the participation in PACAP 1 curated by Patricia Portela in Forum Dança, which resulted in his premiere “walkie_talkie”. Collaborated amongst many with Diana Niepce, João Fiadeiro, Gustavo Ciríaco, while continuing to work in Poland in Komuna Warszawa, with Cezary Tomaszewski, Magda Szpecht (National Old Theatre) and Marysia Stokłosa (MSN Warsaw). In 2021 took part in PACAP 5, which was focused on CTR - Composicão em Tempo Real method.

Year 2022 marked his participation in “Nature of us” residency - an initiative of 4 Visegrad institutions https://natureofus.art - in which he was a resident artist in Workshop Foundation Budapest and participated in Bazaar Festival as well as accompanying conferences (Sobieszewo Island, May 2022). An establishment of an authorial tool for composition named “overmapping” has been initiated and since then developed. This time also brought him back closer to the Eastern Europe context.

Wandering with the art & science desires and a will to build a stronger bond with scientists ( falsely regarded as species of completely different kind ) Baxi met Dima Omelchenko in Prague - September 2022. Life’s serendipity lead to the fact that Baxi was staying at the same block of flats, that Dima was for long already living in, so after few times crossing paths on the staircase or in front of the building, the two started to talk and meet more often, so that now they are sharing a common imaginarium of a collective project, as well as kind of a bromance.
