More info about the approach:
SOFT CORE is a metaphor for resistance against a strong and stable centre. How can softness, tenderness, or weakness be our creative force? How can we use them to make us dive together towards deeper rest and mutual listening? Smear honey on the wounds, cracks and holes within us? Soft Core is a movement-based collective education that emancipates embodied sensorial experience as equal awareness of body and mind. It doesn't shy away from critical thinking or play and experimentation. It is reflection, contemplation and immersion in the exploration of movement, as well as shedding coats and unshackling oneself from the only living reality to imagine "otherwise" together.
At the same time, Soft Core asks: what and how shapes our individual and collective bodies? Personal experiences, social relations or global challenges? How to remain receptive to these challenges, to become not reactive but responsive? Can dance help us with this?
Soft Core can be disoriented, tilted, falling, tired, and paralyzed by the world around us. We will use improvisation as an antidote to prescribed thinking and, without excessive romanticization, we will try to find mutuality through movement that is not predetermined, often revolving in circles and without a clear direction – false move. However, we will try to find the ability to act in this movement. To practice an agency.
We will prioritize movement tasks through the method of guided improvisation, somatic trips, contact work in pairs, triads, groups. We will practice consensual touch and the so-called “safe and brave” space.
It is a safe space that embraces differences, problems, conflicts and discord.
It's a safe space that tries not to offer one template, a silent discipline.
It's a safe space where things can fail, but then re-create themselves in dialogue with each other.
It is a space where we actively work with consent, trust and a constant search for mutual care. Because listening remains essential.
Študovňa is initiated and facilitated by Eva Priečková in collaboration with the Telocvičňa space. Since 2015, Eva has been hosting movement education for people of different movement backgrounds and skills.Participants come from different professions and backgrounds. Eva tries to offer a kind of horizontal line. With our differences, what can be the common ground? And is dance a medium through which we can connect?
Eva Priečková (Berlin, Bratislava) is an interdependent dance artist, facilitator of the dance education Soft Core. She received her Master's degree from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. As Eva Priečková/False Move she organizes workshops, lectures and events that combine embodied movement experience with critical thinking about the body and relationships. She is interested in dance in various groups, ecosomatics, rituals of mourning and celebration, collective learning and re- learning, and dance outside the dance floor. Eva facilitates movement classes for different groups of people - social workers, the Roma minority or the elders. She is interested in the potentiality of dance education towards social justice, interpersonal responsibility and emancipation from the unconscious repetition of normative behaviour. For her, dance is an act of impossibility to tame bodies, of curiously noticing the world around us, of imagining, of awe or sensitive listening, and of everything that cannot be expressed in words. She is currently a PhD student at the JAMU in Brno.
