KONTAMINÁCIE: TRACES

Jakob Jautz (DE)
performance in the woods

traces, a land art, dance and circus performance in and with a forest leads the audience through the forest into a story which questions the connection between people and the land and actively places us within it. An invitation to stroll along interactive, installatory and performative stations through a landscape of change and wonder.

Tracing the landscape, the performance organically intertwines with the forest. Using tree-climbing techniques, merging them with elements of contemporary dance and circus, the forest and the trees become embodied parts of the choreography. The installations in the performance are intended to guide the audience's focus to details and to shift once perspectives.

While trying to lose the concept of individuality, I found my self in an ever-shifting state, up in the treetops and in the hummus beneath our feet. Having the flora, fauna and its climate as the co-creators and agonists of the play, we become all equally creators, stage, scenography and the play itself at once all together. Subsequently, is the dramaturgy, the choreography and the installations in a constant shift and adaptation with the landscape, while the core of the performance remains the same.

No culture is, was, and will be in a continues, equilateral, positive harmony with the other forms of living and non-living beings. It seems to be an ongoing learning process, in which the life circle of both human and non-human must first be recognized and then respected. By offering a space to physically experience the democratization between human and non-human, by creating a narrative full of connectivity, hope, subtle fragility, humor and care traces aims to be part of this learning process.

Jakob Jautz is a dancer / circus artist from Germany. He studied circus at the Academy of Circus and Performing Art in Holland and at SEAD, Salzburg Academy of Experimental Dance.

From where he graduated in 2018 with a major in Choreography and Dance. Heavily concerned by the climate crises and very aware of his privileges as a central European white man, Jakob went out on a quest to define his responsibility and how he can not worsen the situation and at best contribute positively. He is active as a climate activist, dancer and choreographer. Since the early 2021 he mainly focuses on making work with the land.
