KONTAMINÁCIE: HALABUDA – GANGING UP THE RESEARCH

Halabuda is a place we brought back from our childhood. Built together from leftovers, found objects and desires for an alternative, imaginative environment. It used to be a space to meet away from parental control, to play and to hang out. Now, it came into being from the research project „Don’t pressure, we already lack oxygen” which has been developed by Baxi Ostrowski, Dima Omelchenko and Patrycja Kowańska. The starting point of the initiative was the analogy between the experiences that accompanied our own upbringing in the Eastern bloc (Ukraine, Poland) and the influence of limited oxygen on the evolution of various species. Through a quasi-sentimental space of memory we re-work scientific concepts and develop resistance to

the power that leaves one with no air to breathe. How did the upbringing influence our adult bodies? How do we live with it, against it, despite it? We aim to experiment with the site of halabuda to find out ways in which such a place can help us articulate our questions.

 

It’s a temporary site.

It’s an environment of child-like naivety.

It’s a prism proposing a different perception.

It’s full of half probable stories and speculative knowledge.

It’s a forbidden space.

It’s a place from which you can travel to most distant places.

Is it?

You can reminisce in it.

You can hide in it.

You can attack from it.

You can play in it.

You can get your degree in it.

You can create conspiracies in it.

You can share it.

You can gang up the research in it.

You can do whatever you want in it.

And with it.

 

 

Baxi Ostrowski is interdisciplinary choreographer & researcher, Dance maker based in Lisboa, Portugal. Connected with the Portuguese performance scene since 2017. Likes to develop speculative knowledge and contribute to collective practices. Since 2019 he is working in the field of arts & science which started with a research project “Babel. The resonance of language” and by now consists of laboratories, workshops, lecture performance and many other initiatives. He is very tall. But like, really, very tall.
